A Look Inside: Avo

Avo (pronounced like “avo” in “avocado”) is a plant-based restaurant created by raw food chef Jessica Rice and Hot Yoga Plus owner Susannah Herring. Avo is located at the new OneC1TY development at 3000 Charlotte Avenue. Avo softly opened on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 11am. Avo’s grand opening celebration on Friday, July 10, 2015 will have a DJ, free samples and champagne.

Avo is Nashville’s first raw plant-based dining concept. The menu features naturally gluten-free and 100% plant-based (vegan) dishes without any processed ingredients. Food is prepared without ovens, gas, fryers, or range hoods, and is never heated (unless noted) to more than 118 degrees to maintain nutrients, vitamins, and enzymes. The water is filtered through a reverse osmosis filtration system.

Avo’s Menu
Avo’s full menu (available after July 10, 2015) includes ravioli, summer pizza, pesto noodle bowl, pad thai, lasagna, BBQ maiitake sliders, ceviche tacos, plus a variety of salads, starters, and desserts. The Sunday brunch menu features toast, acai bowl, green smoothie bowl, raw oatmeal, cinnamon bun a la mode, and coconut yogurt parfait. Since Avo strives to support local farmers and ingredients, many menu items will change based on what’s in season.

The beverage program undergoes the same stringent rules as the food. You can expect thoughtfully-chosen or concocted cocktails, wines and beer. A must-try is the AVOcado margarita made with fresh avocado, reposado, cilantro, lime, agave and house-made orange dust.

The Space
The space, which is built inside a large shipping container, accommodates about 80-100 people. There’s ample natural light and high ceilings. Plants provide pops of color on the tables and on the “living wall” behind the bar. There’s also an outdoor patio with seating for about 20 guests.
